As is the case with the 1936 York County, ME Tercentenary half dollar, the Pilgrim Tercentenary coins of 1920 and 1921 have two five-pointed stars on each side. And, as with the York, the stars are used merely as inscription separators, versus carrying any symbolic meaning. On the obverse, the stars are used on either side of "PILGRIM HALF DOLLAR" at roughly the vertical midpoint of the coin to separate it from "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" which encircles at the top. The 1925 Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial commemorative half dollar makes minor use of stars on its obverse. The two five-pointed stars are used to separate "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" from "PATRIOT HALF DOLLAR" at the coin's rim. The two inscriptions encircle the central design of Daniel Chester Beach's The Minute Man aka Concord Minuteman statue.
