Hi folks, I'm new to this so I hope I get it right !
I have this old coin I found in my garden in Bodrum,Turkey. (Scottish expat)Could anyone please tell me what age, who it is and where it's from as I have tried researching it with no success whatsoever.
I hope the pictures are Ok but if you need more I will gladly post more.
The coin is 18mm at it's widest. Thank you very much in advance
P.s. Oh and if you know how much it's worth I would like to know. Thanks again. Steve.

I can't tell too much from the pics, but it looks Greek, rather than Roman or Byzantine, and bronze. There's a female head (or perhaps Apollo) on the obverse, and something I can't quite make out on the reverse, perhaps a bird in a tree, with Greek text underneath it - I can see a letter phi.

Bodrum is, of course, the modern Turkish name for the ancient Greek city of Halikarnassos. In ancient Greek times, bronze coins rarely travelled far from where they were struck. So the logical place to start searching is through the coins of Halikarnassos; if we can't find it there, we start working out way out from there.

Yep, that's it.

See? It didn't travel too far from it's origin after all. Only a few kilometres away!

Here's an example on CoinArchives of the same type of coin, sold in Germany in 2005.

That is indeed a good reference site for coins of ancient Turkey - I've never seen it before. I've got an "unknown Cilician silver coin", and coins very much like it are listed there - that's the first time I've seen them referenced anywhere.
