I am wondering since the edge has some consistent scratches and flatter. The reverse has some marks too. Thank you.

It is not a mint error. It seems to have gotten caught in amchinery of some kind. Damage like this is usually called "lawnmower damage", even though it's rarely actually caused by a lawnmower.

ALso, for New Zealand decimal coins, the currency unit is "cents", not "pence".
