Hi All.
I am a noob to the world of coin collecting. I have several coins that are part of a set that have come from Westminster. Also, some coins that are stand alone that have the foil "Certied BU" strip on the bottom. Would love to be able to take these coins out of their packaging, pop them in the Quadrum cases I have bought and store them in the box bought specially to store coins in. Does anybody know whether this is going to affect the coins resale value? I doubt I will ever sell these. I'm terrified I will reduce their value. Surely you can still sell a coin as BU without the "certification"? The coins condition should speak for itself surely? Any guidance on this would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks
Rest in Peace

I am unfamiliar with the certification service or Westminster, so please take my comments with a spoon of salt.

In the US the mints issue their coins in special packaging. In some cases, as with 70's mint sets, the coins are worth a little over face value, unless they can be TPG'ed for a top grade.

In other instances, as with Limited Edition sets, they are worth more in the issued set.

I would recommend a look up on SOLD items on ebay. If the items you have SELL for much more than face value, keep them as is.

Personal opinion, the packaging rarely if ever affect the value of a coin.

Westminster Mint is a private, for-profit "mint" and seller of bullion

IMNSHO their COA is useless. The item is either silver or it isn't and nobody is going to take the COA's word on that.

@whatsamatta, it looks like you are seeing a consensus that taking these out of their original packaging will not affect the value of your items, so enjoy them in your own holders!

and
Hope to see you back with more questions.
