Lately, Canada Customs has stopped several of my silver/gold packages shipped from the USA. Some have been refused entry because apparently gold bullion is a 'prohibited item' in the Canada Post mailing system. I've never had any issues beforehand. I am not up to anything nefarious. Has anyone else had issues with Canada Customs or Canada Post lately?

I am guessing that Customs have X-rayed every package on a conveyor belt, then examined every "coin" looking package, then perhaps doing a metal detector test on most of those, looking specifically for gold coins.
The magnetic tolerance and discriminator circuits in a metal detector can be adjusted to look for gold objects only.

They can find out a lot of information, without necessarily opening every package. I do not know if by Canadian Law, that Customs Officers have to let the recipient know if a particular package has been investigated or not.

Absolutely not true , they do not have the manpower available to stop every package.
The only ones that seem to get stopped and taxes applied are from the US .
The ones from The UK or Europe seem to fly right through via the Postal service .
Also if you do not like what Canada Customs charges you there is an appeal process.
Canada Customs and Canada Post are mutually exclusive . Canada Post only gets the Package
Once it clears Customs.
I worked International Mail at Canada Post for 23 years .

If gold bullion is "prohibited" by Canada Post, the RCM has some problems. I can see all packages from the US being stopped, but why? I don't know.

The only reason I could think of would be if the value exceeds $5k and runs afoul of money laundering rules

Just my opinion. I do a lot of international shipping and lately customs in the u.s. and entering other countries from the u.s. has been... let's say... difficult and more expensive.

I'm not going to get into politics, but I do belive it has to do with politics. This trade war and tariffs has caused a lot of problem's in general for higher value shipments as well as additional costs and has caused a lot more "deeper inspections" so they can find violations and bang them for fees or refuse the shipments. They've gotten really strict all over about the "rules" and "procedures" and "formailties". They are all screening hard core and trying to catch any little thing.

Seriously now I'm not posting this to argue with anyone about political opinions or whatever, I don't care about one party or the other, so don't bother if I triggered someone who wants to tell me whatever. I see what I see and that's what I'm seeing going on with international shipping to and from the u.s. it's become a big hassle on both sides and I do think the u.s. customs is the one causin the problem with other countries customs offices making them work harder than they want to and taking out their frustration and that hassle then on the shippers and receivers.

I had one of my packages refused at customs coming from NGC to Toronto.
After some investigation on my part, I found out that a new kid at NGC shipping put the word coin(s) in the description on the customs form. And the only place by law you can send coins from another country to Canada is the Royal Canadian Mint. So, for that reason it was refused entry and sent back to NGC. I told NGC that the description must say " Numismatic collectible disc's " on the Customs form and travel under HS Code#: 9705.00.00. So they did that and the coins flew through customs after that. No problems since then.

That HS code is your best friend when shipping internationally. Use it ALWAYS.
I have been dealing Internationally for over 40 years plus and have never had a
Package refused or turned back. Held in Customs for a month yes , sent back never.
