I am trying to figure out how much a particular coin is worth. It's pretty worn, and there is no visible date on either side. I've found coins that are similar online from the 1600-1700's but none that are a match. It seems to be a Spanish coin, with a Jerusalem cross on one side with a visible "GRAT*" on the upper left corner. On the other it has the Spanish coat-of-arms with the lettering "AVRM" on the the lower left corner.

If someone could please email me, I would gladly reply with pictures of it.

It is indeed the Mexico mintmark on this coin. The initial J is of mintmaster Jose E. de Leon (mm. 1708-23).

I am not an expert about these coins, but I think this is a copy of a gold 8 escudos, rather than a (genuine) silver 8 reales. I expect to see castles and lions around the cross, when being a silver 8 reales instead of the lily's. These are used on the gold escudo series.

I think, just like bart, that it might be copy of a 8 escudos, Mexico, XVIIIth century. Here you have hyperlink to this coin on http://cgi.ebay.pl/8-escudos-silver...ro_W0QQitemZ320299330244QQihZ011QQcategoryZ547QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

well thanks for everyones input. I have done a little more research, and it does look like it could be a copy.. it's just really difficult to tell because it is so worn..

also the coin on ebay does look alot like it, but again there are some differences, like on the side with the coat of arms, instead of the gold coin showing "GRAT" in the left corner, it shows a 1714.

I did contact a few coin collectors locally. Now I'm just waiting on replies.

thanks everyone

looks like a copy of the 8 Escudos KM#57.2.
That one is gold - weighing in at 27.07 grams.
Sorry
