High stakes lottery with submissions to PCGS or cool it? I ruefully admit I lack "power of the grade" let me have it unvarnished fellas this is Jefferson's 301 for many of us.
Cheap androids don't lie, they tattle on every smudge regardless if visible under a 10 x loop or not. The example 1 is typical soso coin in the 100 bank wrapped rolls I bought, example 2 is not typical but present to this grade about every other roll of coins.I feel the first is 64 FS second coin is a 66 FS.

63 & 64, neither FS. With the number of small hits, I might be a point high on both.

I was pretty sure 5 steps are on both examples, here is a close up of # 2 steps. The weakness to the left does not disrupt anywhere along horizontal length. Bear with me Mox- trying to get an idea of FS on raw coins. Does anyone have a stock photo of a 5 step example raw they submitted that graded FS? I'm scratching my head. These coins pump out of the mint as 64's and above and the 100 rolls I have have been stored since 1997 thus mint state.Thanks.

Probably are FS, but the problem is you need a 67 FS to come out ahead. Even 66 FS you're might not even break even after free shipping and eBay/Paypal fees etc

Very sound comment. I'm positive a MS66 is a true hurdle/accomplishment and an MS67 astonishing achievement from an OBR. Still, I have to pick out 3 that blow others away send them in and so doing cut my teeth. Books, True Grade, WW webs can only show you , but to fly solo at some point is the goal.

There certainly is a value to using it to refine grading skills. I do believe doing like that is the best way to learn. Just keep in mind that with moderns like this even searching thousands and thousands of coins can lead to nothing worth submitting

I just made a modern coin submission to PCGS, one being a 1996 D nickle. Unfortunately, yours definitely is NOT high enough grade to be worth getting graded. Yours would grade ms66 at best. Keep searching though!
edit: Also, FS on 90's nickels aren't rare at all. Its the high grade you have to go for.

I agree, surface issues alone suggest these are not prime candidates for submitting.

Thank you for your opinions and insight, I have seen NGC graded FS original design modern nickels with multiple dings (more than 3) on steps and also NGC examples with nearly flawless steps. The liberalness and lack of consistency with the NGC FS examples I have examined in hand leave me refusing to purchase them. I do see NGC nickels that appear neck to neck with a similar PCGS coin but only about half the time. As a novest FS fan if I see this disparity on NGC coins vs PCGS than surely connoisseurs have known this for a long time. Will post the 3 best nickels I have picked when they come back one will go NGC and 2 PCGS. 100 + in fees but its a critical step lest I doom myself early getting a grasp on these. 67's I figure are very very few and far still in the wilds, but setting goal for a PCGS 66.
