Doesn't appear to be any type of error. Maybe ringworm?

The material is embedded into the surface. Removed some of the material from the embedded area. Looks to be way to small to be pocket lint.

to CCF. PMD. An acetone soak should remove it. Not an error. John1

I may try it. I am very curious to know how this was created. Would those that know be interested in the results?

Yes. I would love to see your results. I can't figure what could possibly have happened to that poor cent.

After cleaning with acetone. It was in fact debris of some sort that was tightly pressed on the surface. Took a bit of scrubbing to remove. When I find coins like this it is my first reaction is to scrape it with my fingernail to remove it. When it didn't come off and it felt like it was impacted I stopped. So, ACETONE is a reasonably safe way of cleaning dirt from coins?

Also thoroughly rinse the coin with pure water after the acetone, and then air dry.

Try distilled water for the rinse. All other waters could have dissolved minerals that could remain behind after air dried.

Yes, each one of you described exactly how I clean it. Contractor acetone on a q-tip, rinse with distilled water, air dry.
Thank you for your help and advice, I learned alot.
