I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct place as I'm new here, but I'm a little confused to what I think I might have,Ok, copper pennies weigh 3.1 g correct? So what are aluminum pennies supose to weigh? Because I have 2 rolls of the prettiest pennies you ever saw and I weighed them all and each one weighs 2.5g.like I said I'm not sure about this and I just found out that a 1974 pennie if the right one could be of some value,so anyone open to suggestions I would love to hear from you and if I can figure out how to post a picture ,I will do so.Thanks guys.

If they are copper-colored, then 2.5g is normal for all cents 1983-present. 1974 is the only year for the rare aluminum strike and it should weigh under 1g, if I am remembering correctly, and, of course, be the color of aluminum. It sounds like you have some BU rolls of post-1982 cents. Depending on the date/mm, those may be worth a tad more than face, though.

to CCF.
Some 1982 cents do weigh 2.5 grams and some 3.1,+/- .10 grams mint tolerance. Post some photos of the possible aluminum cent, front and back.

Start by telling us if any of these light cents are dated before 1982.

Have you opened the roll and they are all 1974 or are you just going by the end coin? As Sprue says aluminum would be much lighter. The Tolven specimen weighs .93 grams.

Welcome. If reading your post correctly, these are all 1974 cents? If so, I am intrigued to say the least. 1982 was a transitional year for the Lincoln Cent. Prior, they were 90% copper and 5% zinc with a weight of 3.11 grams. Afterwards, 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper weighing 2.5 grams.
