Picked this up for $58. Ron Pope lists this variety in his excellent Buffalo nickel abraded die variety reference (BO5-25S2F in page 52). The variety is listed as scarce without an estimate of known survivors in his study. Pope says it is not scarce up to fine, but becomes scarce above that grade.

Thoughts? Thanks!

I recognize this is a notoriously poorly-struck coin, but I couldn't go above VF-30. Let the booing begin!
Rest in Peace

That 25-S is so softly struck (as is very typical). Even recognizing that I've never seen enough of this variety to give too firm an opinion, I think higher VF isn't out of step.

Eye Appeal would be no better than 3/10 on a 38-D, but I like this one at 6/10.

This was a really good purchase on a very tough variety. I don't give it to you as much as I should, but this buy definitely counts as a Congratulations.
Rest in Peace

Ahh you mind if I jump in here gentlemen ? No it's not going to be my usual attack on NS's purchases . In this case I feel he bought a decent coin at a decent price . Most seasoned members know that this date is notorious for poorly struct examples . Add some wear and this is what we have . I whole humbly agree to scratching the edge of VF-30 .

VF-30 seems right. A weak strike coin as many of this date/mint are.

This one also came in. Nice full horn. Weak obverse. Really mice for the issue which as everyone indicated is very weakly struck. Has over 50% luster on both sides. 3rd feather fully abraded.

Very nice for a 25-S. Full horn and almost split tail. I think it is closer EF-40 now. The obverse is very weakly struck.
