I wish, I'm about 1.5hrs away, plus I'm working that day. I will be at the Baltimore show though.

My coin show strategy:

1. Go with cash only, so you don't over spend. That way, it is much easier to stick to a budget.
2. Go around the whole show, but don't spend any money. Have a close look at anything you may be interested in and make up a 'short list'and with which dealer each item was found.
3. Relax and sit down, have a coffee, perhaps something to eat and chat to those you may have spoken to.
4. Shorten your 'short list'.
5. Go back to those items that most interest you, and negotiate for those.

That way, you get to cherry pick the whole show, at an affordable cost.

Take a 'want list' if you wish to, with as much quickly usable detail that you you need.

Not really, most of the better stuff will be gone at a US coin show especially a big US coin show. If you are referring to common Morgans yes that works, but Seated or Barber stuff and the like you'll miss out more than not.

That could very well work in Australia, but it's not a good strategy for a lot of US series. The key is to know what you see. Walking around and thinking over it for the day you will lose out a lot of times on what you really wanted.

You can still nab most of the coins that have interested you, if you turn up before the crowd.
Also, much easier to go through more stuff with more dealers easily, because you spend less time waiting for the guy next to you. That also means less hassle, time wasting and frustration.

When I am finished and if I still have some time, I catch up and have a few quick words with the dealers, just to keep a friendly contact, and they can remember my face.
Do the same with collector acquaintances as well; they become more friendly.

All makes for an enjoyable coin show visit.

I have one advantage. I get early admittance because I get to borrow a dealer pass for the Baltimore show! Race you to the cherry picks!

Sel, I think that is generally good advice. I go in with a set amount of cash I'm willing to spend and a want list with prices that I'm willing to pay for each item. I often do a once-around of the floor. I try to get to a show early because the good stuff can disappear. I often know what dealers to target for what specific items as there is a core group of them that attend a lot of shows every year.

Where is Maryland? I go to about 2 to 3 coin shows a Month. We have lots of them near me. All mostly rather small about 30 to 80 dealers. I like those better than large shows.
