Please help me understand if this is a post mint altered penny, worn down from circulation, relatively common or a rather rare penny.

My research has not shown many results for a 1970 penny with no mint mark which leads me to believe it has potential of being an extremely rare penny. My inspection of the penny says there was no post mint altering to remove the mint mark. Also appears that wear from circulation is not why there is no mint mark present. There's a very slight discoloration near the area that "should have" the mint mark, but it does not seem to be the result of an alteration to the penny or simple wear from circulation.

Please let me know what exactly I have here and what potential value this penny may hold.

Thanks All!!

Hello and

This is a standard 1970 cent minted at Philadelphia. 1,898,315,000 were made, so it is extremely common and worth only one cent (though some people hoard pre-1982 cents for their copper content).

No cents minted in Philadelphia have mint marks, apart from in 2017 when they carried a 'P' mintmark for one year only.

Much thanks NumisRob. I first thought it was common, just as you stated. When I went to look into some further information just to be sure, I came across comments that lead me to question my initial thoughts. It seems I was correct by thinking it was a common penny to begin with.

Again, I appreciate the feedback and additional information there!

to the CCF!

I just like the older cents better than the copper plated zinc. They have a "high relief" design compared to the flat surfaced ZLincolns and Shield Cents. The even feel better. The copper alloy coin is only .6 grams heavier than the zinc coin, but that's almost 20%.
