I posted this coin along with a number of other cash coin in the identification forum a few months back. This coin merely raised more questions. IT looks fairly real and is clearly cast. I have been scouring some websites and books for the past couple of months and have had no luck. So does anyone here on this forum possibly have any new info and/ or advice as to how this might be identified? Any help, comments, or input would be greatly appreciated!

Here's the thread where the coin was among those discussed.

I had another look in my references and lo and behold, I've finally found it! It was issued by a rebel usurper near the beginning of the Qing (Manchu) dynasty. He isn't regarded as a "real emperor", which is why the reign-name, "Yu Min", wasn't findable in my list of Chinese emperors.

His name was Geng Zhongming, and he was one of the three warlords involved in the San Fan Rebellion; he briefly ruled the coastal province of Fujian from 1674 to 1676 before the breakaway states were crushed by Qing troops.

Here's a page of his coins on zeno.ru. It's by no means rare, but it's certainly less common and more interesting than a typical Chinese cash coin of the period. The characters on the reverse are a denomination mark: "1 fen". It's listed in my Jen "Chinese Cash" catalogue as number 647, price $20 in VF.

Great find Sap, I had written that one off as a charm/fantasy.
