I've been looking at a 1794 large cent, but it is so worn that I haven't been able to figure out if it is the head of 1793 or 1794. Are there indicators what will help me on a coin that is this worn?

Looks like a VERY poor try at making a FAKE.

Much sharper photos of both sides are needed.

Head of 94, one of the early ones, S-20 - S-43. Easiest way to tell the heads of 93 and 94 apart (at least for me) is to start with the position of the junction of the hair and the forehead below the TY of LIBERTY. On the head of 93 it is CENTERED between the T & Y. The farthest right it gets on any of the heads of 94 (or head of 95) is just past the right foot of the T. On the OP coin it looks to be below the left edge of the upright of the T so it is a head of 94.

On the 94 heads of 95 the hair curl by the 1 of the date curves back to form a complete curl, this isn't true of the OP coin so it isn't a head of 95.

Then to separate the early heads of 94 from the later heads of 94 is the distance between LIBERTY and the top of the bust. On the early ones through S-43 it is high up away from the bust, on the later ones it is right down against the bust, up to a 1/4 letters hight away or less. on the OP coin it is better than 1/2 letters height away so it is an early head of 94.

To make one more observation, the curl by the 1 in the date is typically ended in a single point. On this one it comes around and then splits into two points (like a curved two tined fork). This looks like Breen's obv 10 used on S-30 and 31 (it was also used on S-38 and 39, but after die polishing removed the forked end of the curl.)

S-30 note forked end of curl by date
