Huh. Looks kind of like if a lamination went all across the planchet. I suspect that the planchet split before the strike, but happened to stay together (and/or was only still connected by a thin strip of metal that happened to rip at some point after strike - probably somewhere around Elizabeth's crown).

Don't think I've ever seen one of those before, but it doesn't look like something that could be easily faked either.

Yes it was only just connected in perhaps two tiny places and has come apart since I have had it.

That's the definition of DELAMINATION.

Great coin well worth careful handling and storage.

I'd be sending that in to NGC and selling it through Heritage.

I do not think it falls in the lamination types,I think it falls in the planchet defect area.
