Neat that the "S C" is on the obverse in my opinion:
Divus Augustus Dupondius. Struck by Claudius. Rome, AD 50.
DIVVS AVGVSTVS, radiate head left, S-C across fields / DIVA AVGVSTA, Livia seated left, holding corn ears and long torch. RIC 101.
30.5 mm, 13.90 grams

This piece looks to be very round, and of very even thickness.
Edge beading very concentric with the edge of the coin.
Those circular, deep dark pits don't encourage me very much, either.
Very unusual for an ancient coin.

Style , but fabric

Sear (1988 ed.) pictures a dupondius (S-528), struck under Caligula, obverse legend DIVVS AVGVSTVS, with SC either side of radiate head facing left.
C. 87, R.I.C. (Cal.) 56, B.M.C. (Cal.) 88.

Vcoins has an example of R.I.C. 101, with Livia enthroned.

Sel_691;

Thanks for the comments! I believe quite a few dupondius coins from the period are called "porous" like these CNG examples below. So I have seen quite a few coins with a surface like this. Probably depends on the ore quality and the place the coin spent thousands of years like water logged perhaps.

I am not too bothered by the 'pits'
It seems fairly common on the relatively scarce Claudian dupondius
Possibly the result of recycling of sestertii bearing the image of Caligula
Recycled metal often results in impurities
Castings can do the same with the impurities and or excess flux floating upwards towards the area of the sprue
But the weight and diameter would tend towards the small
Not the case here
I have one
Apparently it had some 'pimples' which a previous owner scraped off
Again the 'pimples' can be the result of impurities

15.99 grams 29mm
