I noticed some people selling the 1983 CDN 1 cent coins that have been graded by ICCS with the new designation Near 3 or Far 3 is that the same as the Near Beads or Far Beads.

lightw4re, I have registered in Numiscan, and have the name, and password cionfirmed, but have never been able to log in. I want to register with coinsandcanada.com. My name and password are no good here, as well. What do you suggest? Dick

Hi there!
They aren't. You need to register in coinsandcanada.com too.

I checked several 1983 cents under 10x, and can't see any difference. I am stumped.

well, I had never heard of that before now! I am going to do a quick search of my 83 rolls and see if I see a difference at all.

Ok everyone, I called ICCS to get some rates to have some of my coins graded and I asked him about this new variety. He said that there is no such thing. That either they made a mistake labeling or the person selling on ebay forged his slabs. Now I wish I hadn't strained my eyes checking all those cents. lol

I guess problem solved. I figured far 3 near 3 couldn't be a new variety

how can I do an overlay of two coins. I do believe I have some 1983 cents that are actually closer to the rim then the rest are. Its not much but enough I can tell the difference. Sorry for the bad pictures but I am learning coin photos. Image: 1983FCB.jpg101.11 KB Image: 1983FCB2.jpg63.86 KB

please note:
ICCS will say they are not aware of a difference and they will NOT mention it on the slab. HOWEVER, this does NOT mean there is NO difference. ICCS will be more willing to recognize such coins after Charlton has them listed. Scott or Brian Cornwell will evade the answers by saying something like: we are not aware of it, or it has to be confirmed etc.... I will post some surprising coins soon with differences, obvious differences and so far known only to a very few people. However, ICCS will so far not recognize it even though it is obvious. HHB

That would be interesting to see HHB. Maybe they aren't confirmed now but they probably will sooner or later. Ne nice to be able to grab some while we can before the hoards get to them. I found this one listed from a guy on ebay along with some other variations of cents to look for.

As far as I know, the near/far 3 was just an ICCS error, it was supposed to be near/far beads. This would seem to be confirmed by the lack of bead-type designation on the N/F3 coins. If it were a true variety, ICCS would have certified "Far 3, near beads" or something similar, if you follow what I am saying.
