Unidentified Japanese Note - Coin Community Forum

xavierz27 Valued Member United Kingdom 129 Posts	Posted 11/09/2019 11:57 am I managed to find info stating that this Japanese hansatsu is a 1 silver mon (monme) of 1740, but nothing further. Is the date correct, and is there any information for the issuer or the region/domain of issue? Any help is much appreciated, thank you. Report this Post to the Staff

This is my mistake - I misrepresented this note on my site and I have just now removed the misinformation. It is a 500 Mon banknote. There is no date on the note that I could find. This is not a rare instance, and happens often. An older form of writing is used where the location information is usually found, and I am unable to translate it. I looked at my referenced source, and I see now my mistake. A horizontal representation of a vertical note turned sideways - which made the notes appear sideways, and I simply read it incorrectly. A perfect example of why we should not trust everything on the Internet.... sucks to be my example though. Again, I apologize for the error. Report this Post to the Staff

I'm far less familiar with hansatsu notes, though I should still have noticed the characters for 5 and 100 (500) on the front myself! The font/style that some notes use is sometimes my undoing as well. Report this Post to the Staff
