This was a delightful random lucky find - an 1824 Overton O-112 Capped Bust half dollar in a PCGS holder, an R4 variety. It has that lovely dark grey look that I prefer when it comes to Capped Bust coinage and fits in well with my other CBH's and CBQ's with similar appearance. The holder has quite a few scratches - they are not on the coin - so I think I will have it re-holdered with the attribution as it was sent in by whomever owned it previously without requesting the attribution, not that I'm complaining How would you grade this lovely old half dollar, and what do you think PCGS graded it? beautiful circulated CBH without the dreaded "bearded lady" effect often seen on less worn coins.

Aw heck, even with the wear on the wings, its not a bad looker for a 195 year old gal. I'm going with XF40

You might be able to buff out the scratches on the holder yourself, with PlastX or a similar agent. It's done very well for me -- if not "perfect", it will at least be far less distracting.

VF20, though it may have holdered at VF25 with PCGS. Nice find!

Looks like everyone thought it should grade higher. CAC submission?
