I discovered that on this coin that the A and M in America are touching. I have researched this and can't find anything like it.
Does anyone know anything?

to the CCF!

It's just the normal design. If you do a search for 1979 Nickel Images, you should be able to verify.

I was able to find this 1979 obverse photo. It appears that the A and M are not touching.

That's a proof with mirrored fields. The bottom of the letters are lost in the dark area, but they are just touching. Here's the first 3 1979 images I looked at. All 3 show the letters touching. It's always best to compare the same type of coin (business strike to business strike and proof to proof) to the one you're looking at because they can be different or in this case, look different.
