Hey there

So I am really new to this coin and banknote collection I am mainly a stamp collector myself so its a really new area to me so I appreciate the help a lot in advance.

So is this a valuable serial number or is it a spend money ?
And is there any site that I can check some of the banknotes values or errors that can help with my new hobby area ? There are some that I know for stamps but none for coins or banknotes.

The 100 Francs has a repeater serial number. The US $100 is a star replacement. Both have some collector value/interest I believe. (Not real sure about the US $100 as US replacements can have runs up to 100,000,000). You may want to repost that note and ask in the "American Paper Money" thread.

It's up to you whether to keep or spend. The general "rule of thumb" is that the note in question should be in very good condition (& what are you willing to hold on to/not keep/ must spend). For me, I rarely hold onto denominations of $50 or larger but there are collectors who go for high denominations exclusively. I think this is a great site to check out but I also created a website myself recently which has a Notaphylic Sites page that links several sites on collecting currency. I provide a few tips in some of the short videos I created (bottom of my post and on the site listed that may help you decide in terms of starting a collection.

Thank you very much for the replies

Awesome site you have there @walk2dwater and yeah the notes that I hold on to are in real good condition otherwise I dont add it to my collection unless I see it as super valuable

Thanks for the great site @John1 never saw a site like this lol . I am definitely going to use it a lot .

So to sum up the star one is not valuable as I tought , still going to hold it .
For the swiss franc I would like to know more as in what serials are valuable and acctually what is the value of my pieces . I have some more banknotes in my collection so I want to check the values of them and the ones that I am going to collect before I buy it &

For serials if you have a solid (same number serial) or a very low serial (under 100) are very popular and have a great premium. There a several type of fancy serial to look for.
TO see examples of serials and definitions look here

http://coolserialnumbers.com/
The site shows examples of US currency, but the definitions and types of serials you can find are are relevant for other currency as well.

The condition of the note also plays a major factor in the value. So wrinkled, crumpled, creased, torn, dirty, etc. will reduce any premium very fast.

Sounds like you're well on your way. Another helpful site I have found useful is https://banknoteindex.com/ and I use the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money (SCWPM) and ebay to get a good idea of ballpark BV's & what's "hot" and what's "not."
