I have a penny with a Cud and am wondering if this would be the best time to list it on E-Bay with Christmas coming soon. This is my first time since I have only been in this hobby for less than two months.
I figured putting up on auction with a starting price of $75.00.

Interesting coin you have there! Where did you come up with the $75 price tag?

If you check ebay sold values for similar coins,$75 is a bit high...IMHO.

A Cud this size seems to sell between $25.00 and $40.00 I'm not sure about selling coins this time of year.

Your coin is a very nice atheist Cud, but from the pics looks AU and not MS (not dissing your coin, it's great, but talking about a value thing). Similar coins have sold recently for around $55, although yours is a shade larger than those. $75 seems like top dollar for the coin, so if that's what you want why not just list it as a BIN? Putting something up at auction with the starting bid the likely highest possible ending bid seems a bit against the idea of an auction, which allows multiple buyers to have at it and set the high price competitively.

Generally Cuds like yours have been selling very well, but approaching Christmas I expect prices to fall. Who buys a Cud for their kid at Christmas? Generally people spend less on custom coins and put their money into more traditional Christmas items. And yes, lots of people sell coins before Christmas to raise some money to buy those traditional items (and take rolled coins to the bank if you are someone looking for customer wrapped coins) so the market actually gets a bit depressed by the additional items for sale.

Just an opinion, but I've sold a ton of Cuds over the years so have experience with them.

Hello Dan John Longano!

I'm not sure that error coins have a season when they sell better. I've been collecting errors and varieties for 42 years, but I've never been given an error coin at Christmas because it's so specialized. My relatives have no idea of what coins to buy, so I get coin related gifts of loopes, supplies and magazines. I was given a card last Christmas that said I was going to get a subscription to "Coin Prices" but it never showed up. I contacted the company, as did my Mother-In-Law, but they never sent me a thing!

I've let my ebay sales take a rest because of the holidays. I just don't want to deal with it right now. I'm sure I'll list them again in January, as that's when the coin collectors that got cash or a gift card will be looking to buy for themselves.

You may want to post your coin before Christmas anyway. It can't hurt to have it out there and someone may add it to their Christmas list, but I think $75 may be a bit high.

Great coin and to find it roll hunting is fantastic! Please let us know when you sell it and what it goes for.

Thank you for your replies. I will certainly take your advise and wait, and will also ask for less. I found it coin roll hunting because I can't let any coin go with a complete inspection.
