What Are The Differences Between Sellwood's And Shore's Books On Parthia?

I think Shore might be the better reference for someone starting out. It has a good introductory essay, followed by a catalog of coins from Shore's own collection, which he subsequently sold through CNG in the mid-1990's.

The downside with Shore is that, since it's limited to his own coins, the catalog is limited in scope, with many varieties not represented.

Sellwood's second edition is much more extensive in its coverage, but can be a little challenging to navigate for some since his re-attributions of some coins from the earlier edition throw off some of the numerical sequence of types in some parts. Also everything in Sellwood is done by hand. Apart from some pages of coin photos toward the end, there are no photos in the catalog, just Sellwood's own ink illustrations. And all text is hand produced in Sellwood's calligraphy. I find it all charming, but I know some have found it off-putting.

Of course Assar, in the Sunrise book, has updated some of both Shore and Sellwood's attributions. Assar's work on the chronology and attributions is the most up-to-date. His accompanying essay is pretty esoteric and dense for a beginner, though. And the catalog in Sunrise is very limited, more so than even Shore's.
