Hello,

I have question about old USA commemorative coins(like 1/2 dollar 1926 sesquicentennial).

I know that these coins are not should circulated but you can find it in low grades.

Can you tell me more infos about these commemorative coins and their circulation?

Thanks.

A lot of commems circulated during the Great Depression. Back then 50 Cents was a lot of money to leave sitting around. Some unsold commems also went into circulation instead of being melted.

Original mintage was 1,000,528 (528 being reserved for assaying), of which 859,408 unsold were melted. As for strike quality it's one of the worst for the entire series making it much harder to accurately grade. Even mint state examples look grainy and pitted leaving eye appeal an extreme rarity. For an average circulated specimen I'd expect no more than $50-60. That listed in the ebay link above is way over bid.

Many of the Classic Commems did circulate especially for the 20's and before. Many were used as pocketpieces
