Hi there.
I was just reading an article about this error. Can someone please help and tell me if that's what has happened here to this coin?
I'm only new to collecting and I have previously asked for others thoughts only to be told it's a "lawn mower coin".
I apologise as I obviously hold no knowledge about the matter to disagree, I just don't understand how this damage occurred outside of the mint.
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, explanations or advice. Thank you

I hope I loaded the pics correctly and if better pics are needed please let me know and I'll try my best.
Cheers

Whether a lawn mower or some other method, this is PSD (Post Strike Damage).

Remember that the face of the die is recessed which produces the raised devices (details) on a coin.
Something scraped this coin starting at the rim and pushed the metal towards the center. The staight linear striations are scrapes. The linear raised ridge going NE-SW on the obverse is pushed up metal and would not be there if this was caused by the dies. The dies would leave this area flat. There other more subtle tell tale signs that this is damage.

Not a mint error, Post Strike Damage. Something flat has hit the coin at about 4:00 moving toward the center of the coin scraping off the top portion of the design and leaving it and the ridge seen on the coin running from ^:00 to 2:00. What the something was is impossible to say.
