Paid $20 for this one. Thought it looked like a decent VG grade? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1911-S-Lin...refresh=true

I'm at VF-20 overall. Can't grade this on what "woulda" been there except for die wear.

guess I under graded it quite a bit. More experience with large cents. $20 seems ok if its a F to vf coin

Coinfrog, all grading books agree that "wear" is the main criteria for grading. Not appearance.

There are 1926 D LWC that are MS, but are struck from dies so badly worn that the details would be lucky to merit a "good" grade.

Therefore grading from actual wear is a Technical grade.

Grading from "perception" is a market grade, which is what you are doing.

Admittedly most people grade from perception rather than actual wear.
