Picked this one up today from a local coin shop for $20. Been looking for one for a while this the first one I have found in this condition under $30.

Thats pretty neat but I gotta ask....why did Hawaii have it's own notes?

Hawaii had its own color notes in case they fell into the enemy's possession (WWII). If the islands were overrun then the government could just demonetize the specially marked notes.

Special notes were also issued in North Africa for the same reason

That is a nice Hawaii for $20
Most of them at that price point are stained or wrinkly, that one just has good honest folds
