Hi CCF, I haven't roll searched in probably 6 years but I was talking with my wife about the past and there was a bit of nostalgia there so we'd like to just buy 1 box of pennies and 1 box of nickels to search. FYI I'm only missing 1 nickel so that would be a dream to finish my whole set from roll searching.

Do you guys call ahead to your bank or just walk in and ask for boxes (and do you mention wanting non-new boxes).

In the past I was a young college student so I did all the tricks to find Banks with free coin counters to unload my searched coins. How do you guys get rid of coins? I'm fine with paying a fee to return them to my bank if possible.

I cheat. I'm friends with the head teller of my bank so I can call or text whatever order I want in advance and she'll take them back for deposit, so it makes it easy for me.

I used to order up to 12 boxes at one time, because the banks were usually "shy" on walk-in requests.
Pick them up couple days later.
I never called for loose rolls, just walk in. You don't want to give the tellers a heads up to cherry pick the goods.

Never return your searched coin to the same bank that you bought them from, good chance you'll see the same coins again later. That, and it leaves a bad taste with the tellers.

@fistfulladirt, how do you return coins? And I assume you can't specify non-new boxes right? I know the bank doesn't order that way.

You into searching again? I just picked up a box of nickels and cents today. Wife wants to search them with me tomorrow.

I used to just dump loose in $500 bags to the vault teller and get cash on the spot, or use a counting machine w/no fee. As far as new boxes, the bank has no knowledge/cares less whether the coins are new or not.
