This penny looks like it might have been sanded down, but I am not sure. Any information on this would help!

Looks like a Dryer Coin to me, but I'll let others chime in on their opinions.

to CCF. Does not look like a Dryer Coin to me. Weight? Might be a plating issue if it weighs 2.5 grams. John1

Being that the Obverse is in good condition, and the Reverse is quite bumpy. I would guess something was wrong with the material the planchet was made from. Some how it was not smooth before it was punched out. Then plated, then struck. If it were a plating issue I would suspect both sides would be effected.

Panther, both side are bumpy. Do you think that I should get the coin checked out?

Looks like a 1978 penny, not a 1982 D...

Yes, the coin shown is a 1978, not an 82-D. Photos mixed up perhaps?
But, commenting on one shown, the bumpy surface to me looks as if the copper has had a mild acid reaction? Like sitting in vinegar for a bit? Either acid or some sort harsh environmental reaction? I believe it is damage, not an error.

There was an error, here's the obverse of the coin.

By the way - I am new here but I believe I read that it is preferred to actually upload the coin images rather than linking to Pinterest images.
Or is Pinterest OK?

ShineOn, I am not sure. No one has said anything to me yet.

There's a section in the forum rules all new members should read that says new members shouldn't post links, and they list some image-serving services like photobucket that they don't want you to use, period. I don't see any references to Pinterest.
Nice thing about uploaded images is you can click on it for a bigger image.

Why are we talking about Pinterest? All the images in this topic are uploaded here.

I must have caught a drive-by Pinterest plugin in my browser. I don't use Pinterest but when I float over an image I get a Pinterest "save" icon... so I assumed... Or, the site has the Pinterest "save" function active.

Ok, I am seeing that as a possibility too. Is it just paint?
