If it was a 68DCAM then yes. Usually not worth that much. Refer to the price guide below.

While it does look like a very nice half dollar, it's not the accented hair and doesn't quite look like a DCAM.

Fantastic coin, BUT I'm not seeing the accented hair on this coin. The details are missing in these pictures.

Here's the PCGS comparison of the hair.

I hope it's a coin that your father-in-law had in his collection and not one he bought recently, thinking it was the AH variety.

The die markers are missing. All of the Accented Hair proofs have a missing left bottom serif on the I in LIBERTY. You can see the left bottom left serif is full on the images you posted. This is always a quick verification tool of the Accented Hair variety.

The other die markers listed are the solid rays behind the eagle's head and the flared G serif on the FG initials.
