I've had gotten this 1843-o dime back in 1990. What would you grade it? Edited by semikeycollector 01/06/2020 08:58 am

I agree with EF40. Cannot tell if cleaned or not from the pictures submitted.

Thank you to everyone for grading my coin!
PCGS has graded it AU-50 with Altered Surfaces- code 98.
I think they over-graded it for sharpness too. My opinion is sharpness- XF45. I was curious to see what fellow collectors would say about the surfaces.

I was going to say XF45. Such a tough coin!

Indeed the color does not look natural. No clue as to how this affects the value of this rare coin in this grade.

A cleaned coin like this would lose over half of the value if not a touch more.

OP (Semikey) - is this in fact a true image of the color?

This is the true color of the coin. It was bright white 30 years ago when purchased. I was more into rarity and detail than surface quality. That's changed. A similar coin went off at Great Collections for about $2700 that was pretty nice and darker toned.- https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...e-AU-Details
