Did anybody know (or have experience) if plastic tubes are safe for long terme storage? Any chance of contamination?

Thanks

as long as the tubes don't have pvc in them, and most recent ones, don't.. I would be more worried with temperature fluctuations, than the tubes they are in..

Modern screw cap coin storage coin storage are 100% safe for very long term coin storage.
So long as the coins themselves are clean.

The older hard plastic tubes (many styles) often allow moisture to enter in humid conditions, which with quickly affect copper coins.

I have some from 60 years ago. The cents look like they were minted yesterday
Most tubes are taped shut. This helps with humidity and even the screw caps
Will sometimes come open.
Rest in Peace

Yes Jim I agree . The screw type tubes that I use , I have sealed most of my Lincolns with either tape around the caps and tube or wax sealed . The screw caps do have a tendency to come loose sometimes if shuffled around . Most of
the coins that I salted away 56 years ago look like the day they were minted .

Rigid PVC tubes would not necessarily be a problem, just as it is not a problem for water pipes.

The plasticizers added to PVC (to make it softer, like in vinyl flips and pages) are what causes problems for coins.
