I happened to stumble across this Senate of Canada Committee on the discussion of the elimination of the one cent coin. This was back in 2010. It's a chuckle to read the 'experts' talk.

I had Professor John Palmer, as my professor during my university days. He hated the penny, and was a vocal opponent.

That is a very interesting read!

Nearly eight years later and the "leaders" to your south have yet to figure out that the cent is a loser.

There is an old episode of Married with Children where Al's neighbor Steve just got back from a banking conference where they discussed getting rid of the cent. His line was great. "It was horrible. We were pelted with pennies by the anti-penny people."

Every time I hear about this topic, that line always pops into my head.

Only if the US would follow suit and eliminate the penny... As a cashier I can tell you most people don't want them and put them in the take a penny tray. Canada and other nations that got rid of them didn't fall off the map. The US is just so set in their ways they just resist change, (pun intended).

The US lobbying efforts by self interest companies, just throws common sense or cents out the window. In Canada, we certainly don't miss the penny or dollar bill
