@John1
In a glass jar, sitting in our cupboards for decades.
My parents used to collect pennies (for no particular reason) and had these two in their spare change at the time. I'll ask them and see if they remember anything else.

That's a nice size clip but too bad for the year, lots of 1980 errors

Very nice clips , no matter the year, also It's a good idea to weigh any 1980 pennies you find

Very nice, and appear to be in great condition.

Indeed, I've seen a list of them (clipped at different parts)... Wonder what happened back then that made them so prevalent?

Thanks! These pennies each weigh exactly 2.70 g.
Also seems like the older the penny the heavier it'll be (e.g. just weighed a 1940 penny I have and it's 3.25 g)!

The normal weight for small cents up to and including 1979 is 3.24 . In 1980 and 81 it was reduced to 2.80 grams . I have a 1980 penny that weighs 3.29 grams, likely a left over planchet from 79. there may be more

Nice find! Your clipped cents have great colour & lustre for 40 years in a jar.
I collect 1980 clipped cents, offcenters & other 1980 cent errors.
Thanks for sharing your discovery & pics.

@oldmike Wow, that's interesting! I have a lot of 1980 pennies (the year my parents started "penny-hoarding") I haven't looked at yet; it'll take a while to weigh them all ..but I will!

@Scissel Surprisingly enough, they were mixed among dozens of other dirty/dusty pennies..! (I also found plenty more shiny 1980 pennies, although regular-looking ones.) I've never seen off-centers in real life before. That's pretty neat! Thanks for your nice comment
