I found this penny CRH a few months back. I put it in a 2x2 the same day I got it. The spot on the obverse has gotten far worse in a short period of time. I'm in the never clean a coin camp as that's what I was taught by my grandfather and parents but it's obvious something needs to be done with this coin quickly. Also there was no gunk in front of Lincoln's face when I found it. Any suggestions?

Wow! Looks like a genuine struck through cloth! Another rare find like this in two days?! I am living in the wrong area for CRH. Incredible find! Well done! -CH27

100% acetone or verdi-care if you have it.
Otherwise, amazing error! I'd love to find something like that!

Thanks both of you. It's one of the coolest coins I've found. I found found it on August 29. As stated the green has gotten far worse. When they conserve coins is that that they use? I have both acetone and Verdi-Care I put a nickel in acetone to see if there was any affect. It didn't help the coin but seemed to leave a film on it.

beechnut,
A most excellent find. The pattern is deep and wide. Plus you still have th date on yours.
Good luck on getting that green stuff off.

Thanks all. I was pretty excited when I found it. John I looked at your coin again. Was that pic taken after Verdi-Care? Do you have a before pic? Thank you.

That was after. I knew it would not remove the spots on the reverse, but I am hoping it will slow down or stop the progression. John1
