Royal Canadian Mint - The reverse design re-creates a photograph of Hockey Hall of Fame member Willie O'Ree from his playing days with the Boston Bruins (1958, 1960-61). O'Ree's signature is reproduced above his jersey number ("22"), while in the background, the Boston Bruins logo forms a repeating field pattern. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Looks good! I like heraldry on coins - even when it's relatively new like the arms of the Black Loyalist Heritage Society (BLHS) depicted on this coin.

From the Society's web site, "The BLHS is the first Black heritage organization that has received Armorial Bearings, granted and recorded in the Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges of Canada on March 15th, 2006."

I should also add...I think the concentric rings of maple leaves in the field on the obverse make for an interesting design departure vs. the flat fields of a standard proof coin.

I think the RCM did a nice job with this one...too bad it's not a 36mm silver dollar!

Nice, and the recognition is long overdue... but man, I just cannot bring myself to liking a Boston Bruins logo on a coin!!

As part of Black History Month, CTV has done a nice biography on Willie O'ree - on TV this evening. (2021-02-20) First Black player in the NHL
