Deputy sheriff subject of nickel-theft probe in Florida
USA Today

Last month, we told you about a deadly crash that left nearly $200,000 worth of nickels on a highway in Florida. That posting quoted a police spokesman warning the public that anyone caught stealing the coins, which belong to the Treasury Department, would face federal charges. Fast-forward three weeks. Florida Today reports today that the Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating allegations that at least one deputy stole some of the nickels.

assuming he brought a backpack or something, he could have made off with $200-$300. Is his job worth so little to him?

Show me an honest cop and I will show you a liar.

"Honest cop", isn't that an oxymoron..?

That cop will get in any trouble at all. Didn't you know the police are above the law... They are not required to obey the same laws they enforce...

One has to wonder how many people he has ticketed and/or arrested for the same offense, then he feels he is allowed to do it.

I hate cops.

I don't hate all cops, but there's an awful lot of them whose manhood hangs from their gunbelts. There was an Ahia highway patrolman who loved to hassle truckers. One day he was between two of them and a third pulled up along side. Seems the front truck's brakes jammed and the back one's failed, but no one saw anything but an accordian that had a flying tire on the pleats.

I just hate when my brakes fail! However I don't think that all cops are bad. I still like to believe there are some good ones.

I have a scanner with plenty of channels. I know how they play. And once a long time ago I was not so fortunate enough to get a ride in one after leaving the bar. He decided to wait a half a block away to see who was on there way home. Three bottles of suds latter I left and he put on the blues and reds. Then asked me a few tests. He asked "please stand on one foot". I said "OK" but I can do this longer then you can I said. He asked "what" I told him I have my left leg amputated and I have been standing on one foot sense I was 8yrs old. This made him upset and told me to just blow.OPS. On our way to the station I had realized that we had broke the speed limits in 3 different zones and shouldn't I be in a seat-belt like him? They also wanted to take my artificial leg from me the one night I had to spend the night with them.(with 5 other guys coming off of drugs in my cell).I do have my reasons for my hate. Yes there are good ones and there are PIGS. I have seen both.

There are crooked people in every walk of life not just Law Enforcement Officers. The few bad ones always seem to make the majority of good ones look bad also. As a retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer, with over 25 years experience attempting to stem the flow of Illegal drugs from entering our country. I take offense at all your statements. This is a coin site, not a site to belittle those people that put their lives on the line to protect you and yours. Sorry but I felt that had to be said. As to the officer that stole the coins, I hope that he gets the book thown at him.

After 25 years and billions of dollars wasted in the War on Drugs, we have record breaking busts every few months.

I believe it was Einstein who said you'll never solve a problem using the same thinking that created it.
