Hi Groganking

This thread is still active so your not to late .

How many nicks or dings and where would they have to be to knock a coin from EF-45 to VF-35 ?

I agree with you to a point about the apples and oranges difference from UNC to circulated but I wanted to start with an extreme example of what could begin to occur if nicks and dings become a significant part of the grading process .

when I look at a UNC example of a morgan for instance whose size and weight and storage type promoted dings and scratches and bumps , and I see a UNC coin with a hit on the cheek and scuff on the eagles breast the coin can still grade 63 and then I see a circulated coin with a couple of nicks by the date after having been used in commerce be judged as EF but knocked to VF because of the dings it kinda makes me wonder exactly how and why the dings are compensated for by a drop in the detail grade catagory since dings and wear are expected aspects of circulation much the same way that dings and nicks on unc morgans are an expected aspect of the coins.
