Is this a legit 42 over 41d? I know the Philly minted one is pretty obvious and the Denver far more subtle.

I would say no. (It obviously isn't the 1942/1 Philadelphia, it looks more like the Denver, but I'm not seeing the doubling on the other digits that should be there.)

It is a bit worn down. If I use my USB microscope I can see the 4 has a tail under it that has been worn down quite a bit

Also I know the error was in the die so theoretically if the die was wearing down the error would be less pronounced no?

Beware! This is a very heavily counterfeited coin! Buying it "raw" carries with it risk! What you showed us doesn't look quite right. I'd like to see more photos. Good luck!

I see the one there but nothing on the 4. However, as you noted, a bit worn. I like that one.
