Ok everyone, I went big today and bought two rare Augustus Denarii. I got a pretty good price and if I can sell one, I should recoup the cost of both.

The best route would be to sell it yourself, but these are both over $1000 respectively. When someone is spending that much, I'm sure they want to buy from a well known seller.

Therefore consignment or Auction - who has more fees?

I'm sure fees are negotiable - maybe?

I've never done either

PS. I will post the coins once I get them in and take better pics.

I've sold three rounds of coins through Forum, and was pleased with the results. Bonuses with them include a large, established clientele and the fact that the inventory is listed across three simultaneous platforms: their online shop, their VCoins store, and ebay. They take 20%, but listing prices are adjusted accordingly. And, as mentioned in their terms, "We may discount our fee to as low as 10% for high-value or desirable coins." So there might be some room for negotiation on your part.

If I were going the auction route, I might lean toward CNG, although it's been some time since I read through their consignment terms. For a valuable coin I'd inquire about listing in one of their featured/print auctions as opposed to their biweekly e-auctions.

I agree with Bob. Most auction house's will take 15-20% sellers premium and you may have to wait a while before the coin is listed in a sale.

To be honest, I think I would feel more comfortable with Forum. I think they'd be able to find a buyer relatively quickly. I only found one other shop on vcoins with this type and mine is slightly better example.
