Hey all, opening can of worms here. Six 1922D's I pulled from dump bag purchased last week. Know there's forum members who can attribute/grade these in 30 seconds but since we haven't beaten the 1922 D silly in about a year thought new forum members may benefit by topic.
Coin 4 shown may be? (no die crack in O) coin 6 looks a weak D (die #4).The other four appear variations of: grease, die wear,willy-nilly die replacement but not weak D's.
What say the 1922 D experts?
A changed attitude (except die #2) after holding two NGC VF+ 1922 "No D weak reverse" little raised smushed dots showed fairly clear when I studied them under a 10x loop. My reckless love of all save the die #2 has cooled somewhat. OK I admit wouldn't pass one up in EF if price was right:)
Quote: Q. David Bowers pg.162 A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents; Whitman 2013
"Some of these, with a little raised area or a hint of a D,have been certified as No D or Plain by the services. This is simply profiteering. The same coins were called Weak D or similar years ago. A coin that shows a hint of a D is not a Plain and is not particularly rare". End quote.
So...has anything changed since the last knock down drag out on this variety? I digress.
GoldEagle,BadThad,Frogie, what's the skinny on these?
