Are there two valid locations for the mint mark on the 09-S lincoln. I am familiar with the position being more beneath the nine, similar to the 1920s San Fran mint lincolns, but I see a ANACS coin graded with the S more between the zero and the nine. What is the story behind the placements for this coin?

Thanks!

Let me clarify. The S is usually more under the zero. The example I am referring to has the mintmark between the first nine and the zero. I am just not sure which is more common, or authentic?

Perhaps this pic helps. It shows the 4 mm positions for the 09-S VDB, but obverse #1 was also used for the 1909-S cents.

And since there were a lot more obverse dies used for the 09-S than for the 09-SVBD there are probably a lot more than two valid positions.

Great illustrations. I am more familiar with position #4, and prefer it for its uniqueness. The example I saw was #1. Thanks again! Any sense as to the distribution of these positions?
