Can I ask what does the letters on the field mean(on the reverse) are they mint marks eg.LE or LS. I believe the letters SC are something to do with proof that the coin is authentic ?

Bronze Roman Imperials were issued by the authority of the Senate of Rome Augustus had taken personal control over the issuing of gold and silver Bronze was essentially a token coinage There are a very few exceptions where the S C appears on a silver imperial There is some debate about the significance
Mint marks appear later during 3rd century emperor Aurelian Silver content had been reduced to around 5% content The corruption at the various mints required a method of knowing who was playing games with the inventories when the issues came out with 2% or lower !
