Hi, Can anyone confirm anything about this coin which is not in Krause. These coins were not made in copper/bronze. This has Heaton mint marks, but damaged on obverse. Thanks

Perhaps an off metal trial piece.
Heaton Mint used to do that sort of thing.
That makes it interesting.
Pity about the obverse, value would be severely degraded because of this.

Thanks I probably agree. There are 3 mint marks, so a bit over-generous! The damaged face almost appears to have been a deliberate act by manufacturer?
Anyway, what do you reckon on value?
Thanks for your reply

I could only guess at a value, without auction records.
My guess?
$200 for a perfect coin.
Perhaps $25 in this condition.

Better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick, I guess!

Odd - those "H" marks look hand-punched onto the coin directly, rather than die-struck as part of the design.

Perhaps it is a Heaton test-piece - possibly to experiment with where to put the mintmark. You'd need to see if there are any records of anyone actually making dies for a 1911 farthing, since no such coins were actually made.

The coin itself seems to be genuine. The "H" punches were done by hand after the coin was struck. The damage on the obverse may or may not have occurred during the process of adding the H's to the coin. That is open to speculation. I doubt very much that this was a test piece. Thanks for sharing!

There appears to be small pressure ridges at each H indicating a punch. It is a damaged coin, I think, both from the punches and the scrapes.
