I recently started buying some coins and came across what I believe to be a 1878 vam5. It has the dbl stars on the left, double date and extra small side feathers on the back along with double struck letters on the back. Is this a popular and valuable coin ?
VAM-18 is not one of the rare/ scare 8tf varieties and probably does not command premium over general 8tf pricing. The answer to your question regarding TPG grading comes down to your personal preference more than anything. I would want to be sure the coin would grade MS63 to be worth the grading investment however.
