Elimist Pillar of the Community United States 632 Posts	Posted 10/29/2008 2:53 pm I figured since I had to upload a picture of this set anyways to send to a friend of mine who was interested, I thought I would post it on here. kena Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 1682 Posts	Posted 10/29/2008 4:23 pm I don't know values of the coins either but I don't think you paid too much. The 1 Rand coin is 80% silver. Just under .39 of an ounce. So silver value is about $3.82. Coins come in two types of that year....English or Afrikaans. Jan van Riebeeck is on the front of the coins. He founded Cape Town. The animal on the 1 Rand coin is a springbok (spring = jump and bok = antelope). Report this Post to the Staff

I would assume English on the 1 Rand, 20c, 5c and 1c and Afrikaans on the others? If any of these are the opposite you have some rare coins on your hands. Even the more common varieties, as a set, is showing at $12 in 2007 krause so you definitely did ok! Report this Post to the Staff
