Probably is just PMD on the rim. Either Dryer Coin or someone used a grinder/buffing wheel.

But wouldn't the edges be grinded down and how about the crack in the back

The crack is what is called a "die crack". There was a crack in the actual die (the reverse die in this case) used to make this coin. Any coins that were struck with this die also show this die crack.

As a general rule:post a full coin photo front and back as well as any needed close ups. Be sure to crop and rotate photos properly before posting.
