Coinfrog, actually I can notice a slight difference in that area of the coin.

Filling between the denticles. Could be plating chipped off the die. Whatever the cause, it's common on nickels.

I was just thinking that a quick, direct hit on that facet might have pushed up the rims slightly on both sides.
