As to the reverse, I have seen this before.
Early Whitman folders had a "gluey" substance in the hole which
creates the vertical pattern that you see.
I know of no cure for this 'damage.'

I can't spot the vertical pattern you mention.

Is an acetone bath something that is actually employed? Or is that "cleaning"

wont hurt the coin so long as its regular acetone and not nail polish remover which contains it
