A friend of mine gave me some of his coins to go through for him and this 1975 P LMC is plated with a counter stamp of 12-31-1974. Although PSD it is a curiosity. May have been done to signify something important to somebody.

Pretty cool. Always fun to wonder about what the counterstamp signified.

I know what it signifies, 12-31-1974 was the date that the ban on citizens owning gold ended. It was a post mint commemorative, hence the gold plating.

Jim beat me too it. The coin is gold plated, 12/31/1974 was the day FDR's gold recall was repealed and was the first day since March 5, 1933 that US citizen could own gold.
